Investment

Nepal encourages foreign investment in several sectors of the economy. It provides very competitive concessions and facilities to the potential investors. In areas open for investment, 100 percent equity is allowed to the foreign investor.
Nepal is a member of WTO and is a party to the South Asian Free Trade Arrangement (SAFTA) and BIMSTEC–FTA. Its location between the two most vibrant economies of the world, i.e. India and China, is another important aspect why investment in Nepal makes a perfect sense.
Nepal particularly welcomes investment in the hydropower production, tourism industry and resort development, key infrastructure development, agriculture, manufacturing, service industries, mining, etc. Nepal has huge potential for hydropower development with increasing demand in the neighbouring country.
UK, the Netherlands, Germany and Spain have made investments in the industrial sectors of Nepal.
The European Commission has funded a €150,000 project to study investment opportunities in Nepal. As a result it has published a Guidebook for European Investors in Nepal in July 2001. This guidebook is believed to be a good source of information to encourage potential European investors to invest in Nepal.
The European Investment Bank (EIB), based in Luxembourg, made Nepal eligible for its lending operations in March 2000. The EIB participates in implementing EU's development aid and cooperation policies through long-term financing outside EU. (UNDER CONSTRUCTION)
