Administrative System
Nepal is divided into five development regions: Eastern, Central, Western, Mid-Western and Far-Western.
Each region is divided into Zones and each Zone is divided into Districts. Likewise, each District is divided into Municipalities and
Village Development Committees that are further divided into Wards. Altogether, there are five Development Regions, 14 Zones and 75 Districts.
All the 75 districts have District Administration Offices that are headed by Chief District Officers (CDOs). CDOs are primarily responsible
for maintaining law and order within their territorial boundaries and inter-agency co-ordination. All district headquarters have district-level government offices.
Likewise, regional institutions also do monitoring and coordination within the region.
